Queswachaca Tour
The Inca bridge of Qeswachaka is uniquely woven from straw (ichu), which makes it necessary to rebuild it every year as the material naturally decomposes. Since Inca times, this reconstruction has been a sacred tradition, carried out over the course of three days, just before the second Sunday of June. On the fourth day, the event culminates in a vibrant folk festival, where locals and visitors come together to celebrate and share traditions and customs found nowhere else in the world.
We will pick you up early, between 4:00 and 4:30 a.m., from your hotel and begin our journey south of Cusco. Our first stop will be in Cusipata, where we’ll enjoy a delicious breakfast to start the day.
After breakfast, we’ll continue through the district of Yanaoca, where we’ll visit a small volcanic formation, a unique and curious natural feature of the area.
The journey then continues for about an hour until we reach the district of Quehue, home to the famous Inca bridge of Q’eswachaka. This remarkable structure, made entirely from vegetable fiber (ichu), spans 28.67 meters and is rebuilt every June by four surrounding communities using traditional Inca techniques. Here, we’ll have time to explore the bridge and its surroundings, while your guide shares the fascinating history and cultural significance of this extraordinary example of Inca engineering. After visiting Q’eswachaka, we’ll head to the Mosoqllaqta viewpoint, where we’ll admire the beautiful Pampamarca and Asnaqocha lagoons.
Our next stop will be another viewpoint overlooking the stunning Acopia and Pomacanchi lagoons. Along the way, we’ll observe an abundance of regional flora and fauna and experience the richness of Andean culture up close. To end our adventure, we’ll return to Cusipata for a well-deserved and tasty lunch. Afterward, we’ll drive back to Cusco, arriving at approximately 4:30 to 5:00 p.m.
