Our Rainbow Mountain adventure is unlike any other. Renowned for its vibrant, natural colors caused by mineral-rich soils, this stunning peak—known locally as Vinicunca—offers a one-of-a-kind hiking experience in the heart of the Peruvian Andes.

The hike takes approximately 2 hours and is considered moderately challenging due to the high altitude and rugged terrain—but the reward is well worth it. Along the way, you'll be surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, herds of alpacas, and views of towering snow-capped peaks.

  • The tour begins early in the morning, with hotel pickup between 4:00 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. We’ll head south from Cusco on a scenic 1.5-hour drive to the district of Cusipata – Paucarpata (3,310 m.a.s.l. / 10,859 ft), where a hearty breakfast will be served.

After breakfast, we continue by car for another hour to reach the checkpoint, located at the foot of the sacred Ausangate Mountain, where our hike begins.

The trek to Rainbow Mountain (5,200 m.a.s.l. / 17,060 ft) is an uphill hike of approximately 2 hours. Upon reaching the summit—around 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.—you’ll have about an hour to rest, take in the panoramic views, and enjoy the spectacular scenery of colorful valleys, rolling hills, and a clear view of Ausangate, the highest glaciated peak in Cusco.

After some final photos, we begin our descent along the same trail (about 1 hour), where our transport will be waiting to take us back to Cusipata for a well-deserved lunch.

Following lunch, we’ll return to Cusco with an estimated arrival between 5:30 and 6:00 p.m.
